The most popular chains brought in more than $1 billion in revenue in 2020-- but not without challenges.

Burger chain Whataburger opened its first restaurant in Corpus Christi, Texas in 1950. Today it has more than 824 locations across Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and the southern United States and has an estimated revenue of $2 billion.

Whataburger restaurants feature its distinct orange and white striped roofs, inspired by the original location's orange-and-white A-frame roof. Favorites on the menu include "Whataburger", "Whataburger Jr.", "Justaburger", and its fish sandwich, the "Whatacatch".
