A bride wants nothing more than to look and feel beautiful on her wedding day, and celebrities are no different. Of course, they can spend a bit more money on their gowns, resulting in customized creations that are both gorgeous and expensive.
From Kate Middleton's custom Sarah Burton lace dress to Grace Kelly's iconic $60,000 Helen Rose gown, here are some of the priciest and most fabulous wedding dresses of all time.
Nicole Kidman: $20,000
When Nicole Kidman wed country music star Keith Urban in 2006, she wore a gorgeous Balenciaga creation, designed specifically for her by Nicolas Ghesquière.
The dress cost $20,000 and featured puffed sleeves on the shoulders, and was trimmed with delicate ruffles. According to Kidman, "It's the most exquisite dress, and it is so beautiful."
Kate Middleton: $400,000
Kate Middleton might have worn one of the most gorgeous custom pieces of all time during her wedding to Prince William. The gown was designed by Sarah Burton and featured hand-cut, individually-applied English and French Chantilly lace roses, daffodils for Wales, thistles for Scotland, and shamrocks for Ireland.
The custom gown cost a whopping $400,000.
Grace Kelly: $60,000
When actress Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III of Monaco in 1956, she wore an iconic gown designed by MGM seamstress Helen Rose. It featured long sleeves, a high neckline, a full skirt, 100 yards of silk net, and 25 yards of silk taffeta.
When everything was said and done, the dress cost $80,000.
Tori Spelling: $50,000
Beverly Hills, 90210 actress Tori Spelling wed Charlie Shania in 2004. Their wedding cost a solid $1 million while her dress was $50,000. A stunning Badgley Mischka gown, the flapper-inspired piece was hand-sewn and adorned with loads of beadwork.
The full-length gown was fitted and had a certain charm that only Spelling could pull off.
Nicky Hilton: $77,000
According to hotel heiress Nicky Hilton, her wedding gown was inspired by Grace Kelly. The custom Valentino haute couture gown featured a high lace neckline, long sleeves, a fitted bodice, and a full skirt.
To add a little shimmer, the dress also featured hand-embroidered crystals. Adding on an antique cathedral-length lace veil, Hilton's look cost $77,000.
Katie Holmes: $50,000
Katie Holmes married Tom Cruise in 2006, wearing a simple yet elegant Armani gown. The mermaid gown had subtle embellishments throughout and a cold shoulder, showing off the actress's neckline.
Even though it was a simple piece, the gown was still Armani and was not cheap, costing a solid $50,000.
Victoria Swarovski: Over $1 Million
Swarovski crystal heiress Victoria Swarovski did not mess around when it came to her wedding dress. The Michael Cinco design featured 500,000 Swarovski crystals (naturally) and featured a 26-foot long, lace-edged veil.
With all of the embellishments, the gown wound up weighing a staggering 100 pounds and cost a little over $1 million.
Princess Diana: $115,000 – $150,000
In 1981, Princess Diana stunned the world in her gorgeous custom Victorian-style gown. Her dress featured puffed shoulders, 10,000 pearls and sequins, a grand 25-foot-long train, and 250-yards of lace, tulle, and ivory silk taffeta.
The dramatic gown is timeless (even if puffy shoulders and shoulder pads aren't!) and cost between $1115,000 and $150,000.
Katharine Hepburn: $27,000
In 1928, actress Katharine Hepburn married Philadelphia socialite-businessman Ludlow Ogden Smith. The actress opted for something a bit out of the ordinary for her big day, especially for the time.
Hepburn wore a cream-colored velvet dress on her wedding day, complete with black embroidery on the neckline and sleeves. The dress cost $27,000.
Pippa Middleton: $52,000
Pippa Middleton opted for a soft and pretty wedding dress for her English countryside wedding. Designed by Giles Deacon, the dress featured a high neck, cap-sleeves, a corset bodice, and a whole lot of lace.
Her entire look had a romantic feel, a perfect look for a wedding day. The dress cost $52,000.
Chelsea Clinton: $20,000
For her 2010 wedding, Chelsea Clinton wore a Vera Wang-designed gown. The strapless dress featured yards of ivory silk that was gathered on the skirt and tulle pleated diagonally across the bodice.
