The Grimaldi Family Curse
According to popular legend, the royal Grimaldi dynasty is afflicted with a curse dating back to the 13th century. In 1267, a nobleman named Francesco Grimaldi disguised himself as a monk and overtook Monaco’s castle. He became the first Prince Rainier and sent several heretics and witches to death.
But it didn’t end there. Prince Rainier had kidnapped a young maiden to wed, but upon finding out that she was a witch, sent her to death by stake. Before she died, the woman claimed, “Never will a Grimaldi find true happiness in marriage.”
