On September 13, 1982, Princess Grace Kelly and her daughter, Princess Stéphanie, were in a serious car crash. Grace offered to drive her daughter to the train station, where she would head to school in Paris. Along the way, Grace claimed she could not operate the breaks. She missed a sharp turn and sent the car down a 120-foot slope.
Years later, doctors found evidence that Grace experienced a “cerebral vascular incident,” possibly confusing her and causing her to blackout. Only Stéphanie lived, but she carries a painful sense of guilt. “Everyone wanted her to survive,” she recalled, “and instead I did.”
